Explore Florida's Civil Rights Legacy

Welcome

About the Project

The Florida Civil Rights Champions Project is an art and historical initiative dedicated to commemorating and celebrating the lives of pioneering individuals who played vital roles in the advancement of civil rights in Florida. Led by artist Ted T. Ellis, the project features a powerful series of black and white paintings that capture the spirit and courage of civil rights champions from Florida. Many of these individuals have been inducted into the Florida Civil Rights Hall of Fame by the State Florida Humanities.

The mission of the project is to inspire reflection on Florida’s rich civil rights history, educate the public about the lives and contributions of these champions, and ensure that their legacy is preserved for future generations. Through art, exhibitions, educational programs, and community engagement, the Florida Civil Rights Champions Project seeks to honor the courage, perseverance, and vision of these individuals who fought for justice, equality, and human rights.
